Pleasant Peninsula Mural Festival

This wildflower is one of 100 native species painted for the Pleasant Peninsula Mural Festival, which welcomes 21 new murals to downtown Grand Rapids and raises awareness of the threatened and endangered species living right in our backyards.

This species in particular is the endangered Tuberous Grasspink. A member of the orchid family, it is native to North America and can be found in Michigan. These flowers bloom from mid-May to July. If you’re lucky enough to see one of these beauties in real life, take nothing but pictures and let nature work its magic.

If you spot this species or another endangered Michigan species and want to go the extra mile to help conserve our ecosystems, you can report your encounter to the Michigan Natural Features Inventory using the MNFI Rare Species Form, which helps inform conservation efforts.
